Achievements

Cloud-Native Transformation

Truespeed Telecommunications Ltd

2021–2024

Designed and executed a strategy to migrate a growing telco's platform from legacy on-premise systems to cloud-native infrastructure. Reduced deployment frequency from monthly to on-demand, significantly improving operational quality and reducing unplanned downtime.

SRE Adoption

Truespeed Telecommunications Ltd

2022

Introduced Site Reliability Engineering principles including error budgets, toil reduction, and blameless postmortems across development and operations teams. Established on-call practices and runbooks that measurably reduced mean time to recovery (MTTR) across critical services.

Static Analysis at Scale

Anatwine Ltd

2018

Introduced static code analysis across a 100+ engineer engineering organisation for the first time. Surfaced critical and major defects that had previously gone undetected, and implemented quality gating in the CI pipeline to prevent regressions — all without disrupting delivery velocity.

Project Rescue

Eduserv Ltd

2014

Invited back to rescue a project that had overrun by three months with no clear path to delivery. Diagnosed root causes in both the technical approach and the client relationship, reset the project scope and backlog, and delivered a successful outcome within a further three months.

Team Building & Mentoring

Truespeed Telecommunications Ltd

2019–Present

Grew and shaped engineering, SRE, and data teams from a small startup into a mature organisation. Established career development frameworks, coaching programmes, and technical communities of practice to raise engineering capability across the organisation.

Best Practices

Engineering Quality

Quality is built in, not bolted on. These practices reduce the cost of change over time and make teams faster, not slower.

  • Test-Driven Development (TDD) — write the test first; it clarifies intent before implementation
  • Static analysis & linting — automated quality gates in CI catch issues before review
  • Code review — collaborative, constructive, focused on learning as much as correctness
  • Refactoring as routine — the boy scout rule: leave code cleaner than you found it

Delivery & Operations

Delivery is the only measure that matters to the business. These practices close the gap between writing code and creating value.

  • CI/CD — fast, automated pipelines from commit to production
  • Infrastructure as Code — Ansible, Docker, reproducible environments
  • Site Reliability Engineering — error budgets, toil reduction, blameless postmortems
  • Observability — you can't improve what you can't measure; logs, metrics, traces

Architecture

Good architecture enables teams to move independently and systems to evolve without fear.

  • Domain-Driven Design — align technical boundaries with business domains
  • API-first design — define the contract before the implementation
  • Architecture Decision Records — document decisions and their context for future teams
  • Right-sizing — choose the architecture that matches your scale and maturity, not the one that impresses at conferences

Team & Culture

Technology is a team sport. The way a team works together determines the quality of what they build more than any individual's technical skill.

  • Agile & Scrum — iterative delivery, regular retrospectives, continuous improvement
  • Psychological safety — teams that can speak freely make better decisions
  • Coaching over directing — develop people's thinking rather than providing answers
  • Communities of practice — knowledge sharing across team boundaries raises the whole organisation
